What You'll Do
In this role you will act as a frontline health professional, delivering preventive and promotional services that protect community well‑being.
- Engage local residents through outreach activities that raise awareness about environmental health risks and promote healthy behaviours.
- Identify and refer patients with health concerns to the appropriate health facilities for further treatment.
- Administer routine immunisation programmes in villages and temporary settlements.
- Detect environmental health hazards at the neighbourhood level and propose corrective actions.
- Plan and run community health days that provide education on common public‑health topics.
- Maintain up‑to‑date registers of all services delivered, ensuring accurate data for reporting.
- Conduct needs assessments to determine the most pressing health issues within each community.
- Implement vector‑control measures, including vermin and rodent management, to reduce disease transmission.
- Deploy integrated mosquito‑control strategies such as larviciding and source reduction.
- Inspect homesteads, pit latrines, grain stores, market areas and emergency camps for compliance with sanitation standards.
- Enforce hygiene protocols and promote safe sanitation practices throughout the county.
- Carry out preventive maintenance inspections at health facilities, overseeing hospital sanitation and proper healthcare waste disposal.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the County Health Department that support public‑health objectives.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will combine formal training with a passion for community health and a solid record of professional compliance.
- A diploma in Environmental Health Sciences from a recognised institution.
- Current registration with the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council of Kenya.
- Valid practising licence issued by the relevant professional body.
- Certificate demonstrating competency in computer applications (e.g., MS Office, data entry software).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse community members.
- Ability to travel across Kwale County and work in varied field settings, including remote villages and temporary camps.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards and confidentiality in all public‑health activities.
