The Ministry of Defence in Nairobi is seeking a senior leader to serve as the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans. What You'll Do

In this strategic role you will be responsible for guiding the Advisory Committee and ensuring its recommendations align with national defence objectives.

  • Lead the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans, setting its agenda and overseeing the development of policy recommendations.
  • Coordinate closely with the Ministry of Defence, the Cabinet Secretary, and the Chief of the Defence Forces to ensure veteran initiatives are integrated into broader security strategies.
  • Advise the government on matters affecting former service members, including welfare, reintegration, and recognition programs.
  • Facilitate communication between the veteran community, civil authorities, and humanitarian agencies during emergencies or disaster response.
  • Represent Kenya’s veterans in national and international forums, promoting best practices and fostering partnerships.
  • Monitor the implementation of approved recommendations, reporting progress and challenges to senior defence leadership.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring extensive military experience and a solid academic foundation.

  • A retired general‑officer from the Kenya Defence Forces or any Armed Forces service, with a distinguished record of leadership.
  • Possession of at least a BA, BSc or HND, meeting the educational standards set by the Ministry.
  • Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, confirming eligibility for public office.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with senior government officials and civil society stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of veteran affairs, security policy, and the socio‑economic challenges faced by former service members.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
