Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technologist will play a critical role in supporting medication management processes, ensuring accurate dispensing practices, maintaining pharmaceutical inventory, and assisting healthcare teams in delivering effective patient care.

This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to regulatory compliance and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

Medication Dispensing and Patient Support

  • Dispense prescribed medications accurately and efficiently.

  • Verify prescription details and dosage instructions before dispensing.

  • Ensure patients receive appropriate guidance on medication use and administration.

  • Support safe and effective medication management practices.

Prescription Review and Verification

  • Review prescription orders for accuracy and completeness.

  • Assist in identifying potential medication-related issues.

  • Ensure prescriptions align with established pharmaceutical guidelines and regulations.

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to resolve medication concerns.

Patient Care and Medication Monitoring

  • Monitor patient responses to prescribed treatments.

  • Support healthcare providers with medication-related information.

  • Contribute to individualized patient care plans where appropriate.

  • Promote medication adherence and patient education initiatives.

Pharmaceutical Information and Education

  • Provide drug information and pharmaceutical guidance to healthcare staff.

  • Educate patients on proper medication use and storage.

  • Stay informed on current pharmaceutical developments and best practices.

  • Support continuous patient awareness and health education programs.

Inventory and Stock Management

  • Manage pharmaceutical inventory levels.

  • Ensure medications are stored according to recommended standards.

  • Monitor stock availability and expiration dates.

  • Assist with inventory audits and stock control procedures.

  • Maintain adequate supplies to support operational needs.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and pharmaceutical standards.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and dispensing documentation.

  • Record medication therapy outcomes where required.

  • Support quality assurance and audit processes.

  • Follow organizational policies and professional practice guidelines.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • Diploma in Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution

Professional Registration

  • Registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya

  • Valid professional licensing requirements as applicable

Experience

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting

  • Experience working in a busy pharmacy environment is highly desirable
