Job Overview
A leading organization is seeking a Project Coordinator – Nutrition to support the implementation of nutrition and maternal-child health initiatives across Nairobi County and selected regions in Kenya. The successful candidate will oversee project implementation, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation, budget management, and technical coordination to improve nutrition outcomes for mothers, infants, and vulnerable communities.
This role requires strong experience in community nutrition programming, project management, partnership development, and collaboration with government agencies, donors, and development partners.
Key Responsibilities
Nutrition Program Management
Coordinate and oversee nutrition project activities to ensure timely and effective implementation.
Support maternal, infant, and young child nutrition initiatives across targeted counties.
Lead community-based nutrition interventions that promote dietary diversity and improved nutrition practices.
Ensure project activities align with approved work plans, budgets, and organizational standards.
Develop and maintain project management tools, including implementation plans, budgets, and activity trackers.
Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical support to project teams and community stakeholders.
Ensure nutrition interventions incorporate inclusive approaches, including gender equality, child protection, and community participation.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning
Monitor project performance against established indicators and targets.
Coordinate data collection, analysis, and reporting activities in collaboration with monitoring and evaluation teams.
Support nutrition assessments, surveys, and evaluations to measure project impact.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual project reports for internal and donor requirements.
Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories for knowledge sharing and program improvement.
Facilitate learning sessions and stakeholder review meetings to strengthen program effectiveness.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
Build and maintain productive relationships with government ministries, county departments, donors, and development partners.
Represent the organization in technical working groups, coordination meetings, and nutrition forums.
Support collaboration with community groups, civil society organizations, and local stakeholders.
Coordinate donor visits and contribute to stakeholder communication activities.
Resource Mobilization and Program Development
Identify funding opportunities and contribute to proposal and concept note development.
Support donor engagement activities and fundraising initiatives.
Provide technical information and program data to strengthen funding applications.
Assist in developing innovative nutrition-focused solutions and community engagement strategies.
Capacity Building and Technical Support
Identify training needs among project staff and partners.
Facilitate capacity-building activities, coaching, and mentorship programs.
Strengthen local partner and community capacity to implement sustainable nutrition interventions.
Promote continuous learning and professional development within project teams.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Food Science and Nutrition, or a related field.
Registration with a recognized professional nutrition or dietetics body is required.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in community nutrition programming.
At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or project leadership role.
Experience working with NGOs, government institutions, donor-funded programs, or community development initiatives.
Proven experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
Experience collaborating with county and national government structures is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional training in Public Health Nutrition is an advantage.
Experience conducting nutrition surveys and assessments using methodologies such as SQUEAC, LQAS, ENA-SMART, or digital data collection tools.
Knowledge of national nutrition policies, guidelines, and public health frameworks.
Familiarity with maternal, infant, and young child nutrition programming.
Experience working with donor-funded projects and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
