Position Summary

The Registered Nurse or Clinical Technologist will be responsible for delivering dialysis treatment, monitoring patient wellbeing, maintaining clinical records, and ensuring adherence to healthcare regulations and quality standards.

This role requires strong clinical expertise, leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide exceptional patient-centered care in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care and Clinical Services

  • Deliver dialysis treatment according to prescribed clinical protocols.

  • Provide safe, effective, and patient-focused healthcare services.

  • Monitor patient responses during treatment and escalate concerns when necessary.

  • Ensure care is delivered in accordance with professional scope of practice.

  • Support positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care practices.

Dialysis and Renal Care Management

  • Perform dialysis procedures safely and accurately.

  • Adhere to established renal care pathways and treatment plans.

  • Monitor treatment effectiveness and patient progress.

  • Ensure all renal care procedures comply with clinical standards.

  • Promote patient safety throughout the treatment process.

Medical Equipment Management

  • Operate and maintain dialysis and medical equipment according to technical guidelines.

  • Ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.

  • Report equipment faults and coordinate corrective actions.

  • Follow preventative maintenance procedures and operational protocols.

Clinical Documentation and Recordkeeping

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.

  • Complete all clinical documentation within required timeframes.

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare documentation standards.

  • Protect patient confidentiality and data security.

  • Support audit and accreditation requirements through accurate recordkeeping.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient care programs.

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare legislation and accreditation standards.

  • Follow internal clinical policies and procedures.

  • Support ongoing monitoring of quality and safety indicators.

  • Promote continuous improvement in patient care delivery.

Financial and Operational Compliance

  • Adhere to unit financial procedures and operational controls.

  • Support accurate billing and patient administration processes.

  • Assist with stock control and inventory management.

  • Ensure responsible management of clinical resources and waste.

  • Follow organizational policies regarding operational efficiency.

Leadership and Team Support

  • Lead and coordinate daily clinical activities during assigned shifts.

  • Supervise support staff and junior team members where required.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification within a specialist healthcare discipline at NQF Level 7 or equivalent.

Professional Registration

Applicants must have one of the following:

Registered Nurse

  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife.

OR

Clinical Technologist

  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Technologist (Independent Practice).

Experience

  • Previous experience in renal nursing or dialysis services is highly recommended.

  • Experience working within healthcare facilities and patient care environments is advantageous.
