About the Role

The Account Officer will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records while supporting day-to-day accounting activities. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain organized financial documentation.

Candidates should possess practical accounting experience and a solid understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, inventory accounting, and cash management processes.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Record Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.

  • Ensure financial transactions are properly documented and recorded.

  • Support compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

  • Maintain organized financial files and documentation.

Transaction Processing

  • Record daily financial transactions within the accounting system.

  • Prepare and process accounting entries as required.

  • Verify transaction accuracy and completeness.

  • Ensure timely posting of financial data.

Journal and Ledger Management

  • Prepare accounting journals and ledger entries.

  • Maintain general ledger records and supporting schedules.

  • Review entries for accuracy and consistency.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end accounting activities.

Account Reconciliation

  • Perform regular account reconciliations.

  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records.

  • Reconcile customer accounts and balances.

  • Ensure accurate reporting of account activities.

Receivables and Debt Recovery

  • Monitor outstanding customer balances.

  • Follow up on overdue payments professionally and efficiently.

  • Support debt recovery processes in accordance with company policies.

  • Maintain accurate records of collections and outstanding receivables.

Inventory Accounting

  • Reconcile inventory records with accounting records.

  • Monitor inventory movements and stock transactions.

  • Ensure inventory valuations are properly maintained.

  • Support inventory audits and stock verification exercises.

Cash Management and Reporting

  • Prepare daily cash position reports.

  • Monitor cash balances and cash flow activities.

  • Support financial planning through accurate cash reporting.

  • Assist management with financial information and reporting needs.

Educational Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BSc) in:

    • Accounting

    • Finance

    • Economics

    • Business Administration

    • Related Discipline

OR

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant field.

Professional Qualifications

Professional accounting certifications will be considered an added advantage.

Examples include:

  • ICAN

  • ACCA

  • ACA

  • Other recognized accounting certifications

Experience Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience.

  • Experience maintaining financial records and preparing reconciliations.

  • Knowledge of inventory accounting and cash management processes.

  • Practical experience using accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
