Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Leadership
The successful candidate will:
Review, develop, and implement organizational communications strategies aligned with campaign priorities and objectives.
Position the organization as a leading voice on climate justice and environmental issues in Africa.
Ensure alignment between communications, digital engagement, campaigns, and fundraising initiatives.
Translate complex environmental and political topics into accessible and engaging public messaging.
Collaborate with campaign and program teams to develop effective advocacy communication plans.
Lead the creation of innovative communication initiatives that strengthen campaign visibility and impact.
Media Relations and Editorial Management
Key responsibilities include:
Providing editorial oversight for both Francophone and Anglophone communications materials.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with African and international media outlets.
Overseeing media engagement activities, including press releases, interviews, media briefings, and opinion articles.
Serving as a senior spokesperson when required.
Increasing organizational visibility and influence in regional and global discussions.
Digital Communications and Storytelling
The Head of Communications will:
Collaborate with digital teams to strengthen online communications and audience engagement.
Support the development of compelling storytelling initiatives and campaign materials.
Ensure communications remain audience-centered, culturally relevant, and impactful.
Oversee the production of high-quality content across multiple communication channels.
Brand and Reputation Management
Responsibilities include:
Safeguarding and strengthening organizational brand identity and reputation.
Ensuring consistency in messaging, tone, and visual identity across all communication platforms.
Co-leading crisis communication planning and response initiatives.
Managing reputational risks and sensitive communication matters.
Team Leadership and Management
The successful candidate will:

Manage departmental planning, budgeting, and performance evaluation processes.
Coordinate external consultants, creative agencies, photographers, videographers, and other communication partners.
Stakeholder Engagement
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting engagement with partners, donors, civil society organizations, policymakers, activists, and influencers.
Strengthening relationships with regional and international stakeholders, including media organizations.
Representing the organization at conferences, strategic meetings, and public forums.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning
The role also involves:
Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting systems to measure communications effectiveness.
Monitoring media coverage, audience engagement, and campaign performance.
Using data and insights to continuously improve communications strategies and outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.
A Master's Degree is considered an added advantage.
Professional Experience
Candidates should have:
A minimum of six years of progressive experience in communications, media, advocacy, campaigning, public affairs, or related fields.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary communications teams.
At least three years of experience working in Africa within international NGOs, advocacy organizations, social justice movements, or media institutions.
Experience managing high-profile media engagements and crisis communications.
