About the Role

The SME Sales Manager will lead the development and execution of strategies designed to expand the organization's SME customer base and strengthen portfolio performance.

This role combines sales leadership, product development, risk management, and business growth responsibilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong commercial awareness, market insight, and leadership capabilities to achieve ambitious growth targets while maintaining sound credit quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

SME Customer Acquisition

  • Drive the acquisition of SME loan customers across multiple market segments.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities within:

    • Private companies

    • Entrepreneurs

    • Public sector institutions

    • Retail businesses

  • Develop strategies to increase customer acquisition and portfolio expansion.

Strategic Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and business partners.

  • Establish partnerships with:

    • Employers

    • Vehicle dealers

    • Motor vehicle associations

    • Industry networks

  • Leverage partnerships to support business growth and customer acquisition.

Product Development and Innovation

  • Design and improve SME loan products to meet evolving market needs.

  • Ensure products remain competitive in terms of:

    • Pricing

    • Features

    • Customer experience

    • Processing efficiency

  • Identify opportunities for product innovation and enhancement.

Sales and Marketing Leadership

  • Develop and implement marketing campaigns that support business growth.

  • Coordinate sales activation initiatives across target markets.

  • Monitor campaign performance and optimize strategies for improved results.

Portfolio and Credit Risk Management

  • Implement effective credit assessment standards and lending controls.

  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify potential risk indicators.

  • Develop early warning systems to support proactive portfolio management.

  • Ensure sustainable portfolio growth while maintaining credit quality.

Collections and Recovery Collaboration

  • Work closely with Risk and Collections teams to manage delinquency levels.

  • Support recovery initiatives that protect portfolio quality.

  • Promote responsible lending practices across the organization.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, coach, and motivate loan officers and relationship managers.

  • Set clear performance expectations and sales objectives.

  • Support professional development and continuous learning initiatives.

  • Build a results-driven and customer-focused sales culture.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Introduce performance dashboards and productivity tracking systems.

  • Monitor key business indicators and sales metrics.

  • Prepare reports and recommendations for senior management.

  • Drive accountability through data-driven performance management.

Market Intelligence and Business Analysis

  • Monitor industry trends and competitor activities.

  • Analyze customer preferences and market opportunities.

  • Use market insights to guide product positioning and sales strategies.

Customer Experience Enhancement

  • Ensure efficient and customer-friendly loan application processes.

  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and turnaround times.

  • Support initiatives that strengthen customer satisfaction and retention.

Educational Requirements

Candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in:

    • Business Administration

  • Qualification from a recognized institution.

Experience Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in retail lending or financial services.

  • Significant experience within SME lending environments.
