The Kwale County Public Service Board is looking for ten qualified Medical Laboratory Technologists (Level III) to strengthen its County Health Department. This full‑time, on‑site role is based in Kwale, Kenya, and is essential for delivering reliable diagnostic results to both in‑patient and out‑patient services. What You'll Do
In the capacity of a Laboratory Technologist III you will handle a variety of technical and quality‑assurance responsibilities, such as:
- Thoroughly decontaminating work benches and laboratory surfaces at the start and end of each shift.
- Receiving, reviewing and logging laboratory requisition forms and patient specimens to ensure completeness and correctness.
- Preparing patients for specimen collection by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort.
- Collecting, labeling, and registering specimens in the laboratory information system with strict adherence to chain‑of‑custody protocols.
- Conducting macroscopic and microscopic examination of specimens according to standard operating procedures.
- Accurately documenting test results and dispatching them promptly for clinical decision‑making.
- Preparing routine and special stains required for hematology, microbiology and histopathology analyses.
- Performing blood grouping, issuing compatible blood and blood products to peripheral health facilities, and ensuring proper storage conditions.
- Maintaining inventory and storing blood products in line with temperature and safety requirements.
- Supporting the laboratory’s quality management system by participating in internal audits, corrective actions and continuous‑improvement activities.
- Working flexible shifts, including nights and weekends, to meet service demand.
- Responding swiftly to emergency calls and providing urgent test results when needed.
- Undertaking any additional duties assigned by the County Health Department that contribute to efficient laboratory operations.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications and personal attributes:
- A Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences awarded by a recognised and accredited training institution.
- A current registration certificate with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
- A valid practising licence issued by the KMLTTB.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including laboratory information systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work flexible schedules and adapt to changing workload demands.
- Strong dedication to delivering high‑quality care for both in‑patient and out‑patient populations.
- Readiness to answer emergency calls and provide rapid diagnostic support.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude toward multidisciplinary health teams.
